I mean, why wouldn’t you?

I’m in Michigan and I try to do that.  I’m not one of those people who has to find a spot the closest to the entrance.

It's nice they put trees in the lots for such a purpose.

Not put there, left there. I wish there were more.

Arizona: where is doens’t matter if you’re in the shad, and the blacktop is a million degrees.

*I still still park in the shade at my new job because I’m the only one who can make the sharp turn under the mesquite tree.

One of my favorite restaurants has the center portion of their parking lot covered for shade, but with solar panels on top of the covers. I don’t know if it’s enough to power the whole building but it’s nice to park in a covered spot.

Seems like a good idea until the jackhole with the jacked up truck runs into the canopy. I worked at Sonic in my youth. Canopy hits were never a surprise.

Funny, our developers (both resi and retail) tear EVERYTHING out, then plant something small that might one day provide shade for a Vespa.

Our last two major retail developments near my house required -- basically -- leveling the side of a mountain. It’s 10x more creepy to see not only the trees cleared, but the entire horizon altered. I’m not a huge fan.

Most of the open land around here has a lot of mesquite and live oak, trees that are very drought tolerant. Developers usually leave as many as possible. Still not enough for my liking, though.

That’s great, though -- your pic above is more shade than I’ve ever seen in a parking lot...ever. At least they’re thinking about it. It’s actually kind of a miracle they can do all that site work without destroying them along the way.
